“America’s most stylish 8 year old”

MAD BOY

Meet Arlo Weiner, America’s most stylish eight-year old

“When you’re the son of Matt Weiner, creator of the impeccably styled TV series Mad Men, you’ve got serious sartorial standards to live up to. Arlo Weiner has been creating his own style since the age of three—when he asked his parents for a top hat. Soon he’d moved on to striped bow ties, crushed velvet jackets, madras pants, and ascots (yeah, he knows what an ascot is).

In the past five years, Arlo—named after singer Arlo Guthrie, whom he listens to along with Black Sabbath and Bob Dylan—has become one of the sharpest, most original dressers this side of second grade. (Arlo on Dad’s show: “That’s where I’ve gotten a lot of my inspiration.”) His look is part Oliver Twist, part Royal Tenenbaums—eclectic and kidlike, but somehow knowingly so. (His favorite item right now: a fez. “I like to flick the string,” he says.) Even in L.A., a city where half the populace dresses to be noticed, Arlo stands out. A favorite story in the Weiner family is the time perma-cool rocker Beck followed Arlo down the street, so taken was he by the kid’s head-to-toe plaid.

Arlo, who plans to start designing his own clothes as soon as his mom gets a sewing machine, likes to mix and match bright colors and patterns. In fact, he’s up for trying just about anything—except sneakers and jeans. “They’re really not my thing,” he confesses. ”

er… sometimes i go off on a tangent

I haven’t realised how many cool thoughts there are out there – i’m talking about mostly fashion / art related ones for now …

i’ve been thinking a bit about studying lately, possibly going to design school but one thing that has always lingered in the back of my mind is that there are SO many people out there interested in design, fashion, art that it almost seems like an impossible ideal for me. Coming from such a small city makes you forget how big the world is and how many people there are occupying  it!

Like nearly every young person i want to play a significant role (somehow!) on this big planet – use my youth and time while i can but sometimes it’s so tricky finding out how! Especially when there are already so may amazing minds and ideas floating out there!!

In terms of the art / fashion side of life here a just few i found whilst getting lost in cyber spaaace… ah …

Tokyo shopping!! V1

This is a very cool store in central Shibuya. They sell men’s clothes, bags and shoes – i also got the impression the did made to measure. The leather bags were amaing and the cute cotton sneaks were fab.

Quality was underlined in the price however so for Max and myself in this particular store it was just window shopping…for now!

kid cudi is the business

I’ve only just started taking notice of Kid Cudi – i know i’m the slowest person on earth about music as my boyfriend has informed me many times  – but i thought i’d do a post because he got mad style and he’s first album is really rad… i’m a sucka for hip hop like this and i recommend you listen if you havn’t already!
